Freshman Emmanuel Badejo broke more school records to lead the Wayne State College track and field team during the annual Wildcat Classic outdoor meet on Friday, March 28.
Badejo was the highlight on the men’s side for the Wildcats. After a record-setting indoor season by the freshman, Badejo set two outdoor records in the 200-meter dash with a time of 20.99 and broke the old 100-meter dash mark with a time of 10.36 seconds. Badejo took first in the 200-meter and placed second in the 100-meter.
Elliott Nottlemann also took home some event wins in various jumping competitions. The sophomore took home the top finish in the long jump with a mark of 22’ 10 ¾” and the high jump by clearing a mark of 6’ 4”. Other event wins came courtesy of senior Quentin Dreyer, winning the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:09.64 and freshman Alex Razee won the 400-meter dash in 50.39 seconds.
The Wildcat men saw plenty of other podium finishes. Freshman Mitchell Hupp took silver in the 200-meter dash behind his teammate Badejo and Hupp earned a third-place finish in the 100. Senior Wyatt Nissen placed third in the 200-meter, giving WSC a clean sweep of the podium. Another podium finish from the track saw freshman Mujeeb Adewuyi take third during the 400-meter, with another Wildcat, Austin Madsen, just missing the podium at fourth in the event.
The Wildcat men took some top finishes as throwers, too. Daylin Mallory took second in the shot put with a mark of 51’ 0” and Daniel Elge placed second in the hammer throw with a throw of 186’ 8”.
On to the Wildcat women, where the top performance came from Reagen Murphy who took home an event win in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.94 seconds and the freshman took second in the 400-meter hurdles.
Fellow freshman Kaitlyn Bloomenrader took home the gold in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:30.24 and senior thrower Reilly Young garnered another first-place finish for the Wildcat women in the discus at 160’ 4”.
More podium finishers for the Wildcat women saw two second-place finishes and a pair of third-place marks. Lindsay Kneifl hit a mark of 36’ 2” in the triple jump and Kailee Kellum jumped 18’ 2 ½” in the long jump, both finishing second in their respective events. Zoey Holmes took home bronze in the 400-meter dash and Hailey Baker nabbed third in the hammer throw.
The Wildcat men and women will be back in action at the Concordia Invite in Seward from Friday, April 4 to Saturday, April 5.
