The Wayne State College beach volleyball team is set to host a home doubleheader in Wayne, Nebraska against the Ottawa University-Kansas Braves on Saturday, April 5.
The Wildcats have amassed an 11-2 record as a team throughout the season and the home doubleheader will conclude the regular season for WSC.
The Braves enter this contest 4-6 on the season and got swept 5-0 by WSC earlier this season on March 18. That sweep did not come easily to WSC. The first and third pairing matchups each went to a third set. The first pairing of WSC then needed extra points to get past the Braves top pairing. The fourth pairing matchup went to extra points in set one and almost needed extra volleyball in the second set.
WSC’s pairings this year have been mostly successful. The fourth pairing of Reese Johnson, a Northern State transfer who enrolled early to play on the beach team, and sophomore Ella Myler is ranked as the second best fourth pairing in the country, according to collegebeachvb.com, with a record of 12-1. The third pairing of Molly Romano and Brooklyn Kusler has also seen tremendous success with an 11-2 record and was ranked inside collegebeachvb.com’s top five third pairings earlier this season.
The fifth pairing of Rhianna Wilhelm and Brooks Peltz is currently 10-3 and the second pairing of Chloe Hanel and Channatee Robles is 9-4. The top pairing of Taylor Bunjer and Ava Spies has struggled so far and gathered only three wins in 2025 but they are building momentum, having won their past two contests as a pair.
Anna Borner and Jolee Ryan have competed in exhibition competition In various contests this season, and are expected to do that against Ottawa during the doubleheader as they did against the Braves earlier this season.
Times for the matches have yet to be determined. Go to wscwildcats.com for any updates about the beach volleyball contests.
