KWSC-FM, KWSC-TV and the Wayne Stater traveled to Kearney on April 29 and received 10 first places at the 2025 Golden Leaf Awards.
The Golden Leaf Awards are an annual event recognizing the hard work and excellence of broadcasting and journalism students in Nebraska and their student publications.
First place winners from WSC include Nate Bope for best sports column and best audio sports story, Becca Arkfeld for best general news story and best audio promotional announcement, Maddie Genoways for best house ad, Grace Hunke and Sara McKenna for best audio news story, Armando Alferez and Isaiah Salmon for best audio sports play-by-play announcing, Grant Farrell for best video news story and The Wayne Stater staff for best website.
In the categories of best sports column, best audio sports story, Best audio feature story, best audio promotional announcement, best audio sports play-by-play announcing and best video news story, WSC student publications swept, receiving awards for first, second and third place.
The three programs from WSC were awarded 30 awards in total. In the 2024 Golden Leaf awards, they won 18 awards with multiple first places.
