Wayne State alumni will travel to Switzerland for an alumni trip March 26 – April 4.
The trip is planned by the Wayne State Foundation and is open to any WSC alumni. This year, 33 alumni and friends will travel to Switzerland, where they will spend nine days on the Holland Tulips and Rhine River Castles Cruise, according to the WSC website
“Right now, we do one about every two years and it’s open to all alumni,” Melissa Nelsen, Interim Chief Executive Officer of the foundation, said. “We do have alumni who will invite friends that were not alumni, and we welcome them.”
According to the WSC website, The Wayne State College Alumni Office arranges trips abroad for large groups of Wayne State alumni and friends to enjoy time together while also experiencing places outside of the United States.
“The other piece of the work that the foundation does is on top of fundraising is alumni engagement, so our goal is to keep as many alumni connected to Wayne State college as possible. And, you know, keeping them involved in many ways… Our primary goal is to really just keep alumni engaged and involved in campus, so these trips are one of those ways that we are able to do that,” Nelsen said.
“Sometimes we have an alum who has been on a trip in the past to say ‘we really want to go here,’ so we will. We will look into that,” Nelsen said, “We also work with different travel agencies that kind of specialize in these kinds of trips and, you know, they help us plan the trip and the activities that we do while we’re on the trip. But then there’s other times where we have just kind of decided you know we haven’t, you know we haven’t been to a certain place, maybe we will go there.”
“So far, historically with the Wayne State Foundation, the trips have been international. However, there is some interest in taking you know maybe some domestic trips in the future.” Nelsen said.
According to the WSC website, past alumni trips have included Italy, France, Croatia, Prague and Budapest, Canada, and more.
In addition to the alumni trip, the Wayne State Foundation supports many different projects. According to the WSC website, the Wayne State Foundation works with the college to support scholarships, facilities, athletics and other areas across campus,
