WSC students will be able to experience book selection in a novel way, socialize and get crafty at CatPAC’s upcoming “Don’t Judge a Book by its Cover” event in Conn Library on March 26, from 5-7 p.m.
“We are wrapping books of all genres, so students will have to judge books based on descriptions we provide rather than their traditional covers,” CatPAC’s executive director Liz Liston said. “It’s a fun twist for book lovers and non-book lovers to get involved!”
Students are encouraged, but not required, to select a book and can also visit the DIY station to create felt corner bookmarks and assemble book annotation kits filled with items like page tabs and note-taking supplies.
Last year, Liston came up with the idea, and the team decided to bring it back this year. CatPAC’s executive team has collected a list of books from genres like romance, sci-fi, horror, mystery, personal development and more.
Books used that belong to the library will be checked out at the circulation desk, thanks to coordination with library director Dave Graber.
“Last year’s ‘Don’t Judge a Book by its Cover’ event was a great success, so we were excited to learn that CatPAC wanted to do it again,” Graber said. “This is a great chance for students to be exposed to a book that they wouldn’t otherwise select. It’s kind of like a blind date… there’s a chance it might not work out, but there’s also a chance you may discover your new favorite author.”
Students should bring their student ID to sign in at the event and to check out books belonging to the library.
