Cat PAC is hosting a silent auction for students to win leftover prizes from previous events on Feb. 26 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
“Every year, we clean out our back room because we have a lot of supplies from all kinds of events and usually, we have leftovers,” Anja Oelofse, an event coordinator, said. “In previous years, they would just throw it away, and this year, I thought it would be a good idea if we did a silent auction where students can bid on stuff they want.”
The silent auction event gives students the chance to win items they have seen before.
“Since this is a really sudden event, we are just going to have it here in the office and set up tables,” Executive Director Liz Liston said. “And then, in front of all the items, we are just going to have a little container and they can put their raffles in for what item they want. At the end of the day, we will draw for every item and post the winners on social media or email them.”
Cat PAC is giving away extra items from events to prepare for next year.
“All of this stuff is everything that we’ve gathered, and we also have a back office with a lot of catch-all items from events that were left over and stuff like that,” Liston said. “We just wanted an opportunity to get rid of a lot of stuff and start fresh for the new year in the fall, because we will have a new executive director.”
There are lots of other events coming up for Cat PAC to keep students involved on campus.
“I am really excited for our Headphone Disco,” Oelofse said. “It’s going to be Y2K themed, it’s going to be a silent disco, basically. Also, we did this last year, and it was pretty big. It’s an event called Don’t Judge a Book by its Cover. It is a blind date with a book, and you pick out, based on a genre you like or a quick description of what book you want, and then it’s like a mystery and then you get to open it and read it.”
The several events in the next few weeks encourage students to meet new people and have fun on campus.
“We do have a POC Hair Care event,” Liston said. “We already had that earlier on Feb. 3, but we have a lot of stuff left over from it, so we are doing another pop-up event to get rid of everything. In March, we have the Headphone Disco that’s Y2K themed. And then, we have a Hydration Station and Get in Tune, which is meditation, essential oil bracelets, and then just some other self-care things like that.”
Cat PAC creates events like these to bring students together outside of their academic careers.
“I think the events bring people that won’t necessarily talk to each other, or even know about one another, into the same environment, and they might share hobbies that they didn’t even know they shared with a person from a different major,” Oelofse said.
Cat PAC’s silent auction and other upcoming events give students the opportunity to connect with others and have a positive impact on the WSC campus.
