A brand-new band in Wayne, Lazarus Go Home, released their debut single along with a music video Friday, Feb. 7, 202.
The song, titled Jerkwater, is about feeling displaced or unhappy with where you are in the world. Travis Boock, who is the lead vocalist and plays rhythm guitar for the band
“The lyrics relate to how you can be stuck in an area where you don’t feel like you should be,” Boock said.
While writing the song, Boock thought that the meaning behind the word Jerkwater followed the lyrics very well.
“The term Jerkwater means small, abandoned, falling-apart town, kind of like a ghost town,” said Boock, “Initially, I thought the word sounded cool, and it definitely followed the similar theme within the lyrics, so it worked out perfectly.”
When Boock brought the song idea to the group, everyone wrote their own part. It made the song more collaborative and allowed everyone to have their own take on the song.
“I’ll come to practice with some chord progressions and we’ll just all jam on them. Everybody comes up with something. It’s pretty collaborative,” Boock said.
Shea Miotke, who plays bass for the band, explained that there were no major issues when the group was working on this project. “Everything came together perfectly in a way where there was no room for problems,” Miotke said.
The group described how important it is to stay consistent with the release of fresh music as a new band.
“We’re actively trying to build an audience,” said lead guitar player Colin Freeman. “We’ve played a few live shows, but it’s not like we have a cohesive fan group or anything like that yet, which makes sense because we only have one song out right now.”
Boock noted that, “If we release one song and then we don’t release anything for a year or two, people are going to forget about us.”
The group does have plans for upcoming songs and is in the process of working on an EP, also known as extended play.
“We are working on an EP, but that’s all I can really say on that for right now,” said Boock when asked about the band’s future plans.
Boock and Freeman mentioned that they have known each other for over two years now and have always had the idea of creating a band together. “It was kind of like a natural progression for us to start a band and start making music together,” Freeman said.
