The Wayne Public Library’s calendar is packed with crafty and engaging activities, featuring an educational and instrumental celebration of blues music with C.A. Waller on Saturday, Feb. 8 at 1 p.m.
Another special event, a puzzle race, will be held on Saturday, Feb. 22 at 1 p.m. at Blends & Boards on Main Street. With pre-registry at the library, up to eight teams of four will race to complete a 500-piece puzzle.
Crafty community members can assemble a unique creation at Adult Craft Night on the first Tuesday of every month at 6 p.m. and unwind with Adult Coloring on the second Tuesday of every month at 6 p.m. “We don’t really do sign-ups,” Heather Headley, the library’s director, said. “Just come and join us!”
Needle Night, held every Thursday at 6 p.m., also provides crafting comradery and advice. “Needle Night is open to any handicrafts, so it’s not necessary that you be a knitter or crocheter or an embroiderer,” Headley said. “Even if you’re just interested in learning, those gals are all very good and open and welcoming to be able to help a beginner get started.”
Those who favor audiobooks might participate in Walk & Talk Book Club on the third Tuesday of every month at 6 p.m. “Right now, we’re doing it at the Community Activity Center, and when the weather gets nicer, we’re hoping to be out on the paths and trails,” Headley said.
Traditional Book Club is held on the fourth Tuesday of every month at 6 p.m., where Adult Services Librarian Nicole Johnson feels at ease. “I enjoy helping people and talking about books,” Johnson said. However, not all discussion must be limited to literature at the Wayne Public Library, as Johnson also hosts Coffee & Conversation at 10:30 a.m. on the first Monday of every month
Spring activities are also being coordinated, as the Wayne Public Library plans an Earth Day program in collaboration with the Wayne Green Team. Participants will learn to repurpose jeans into denim tote bags, inspiring ways to reduce, reuse and recycle. Opportunities for community service are also available in preparation for the library’s annual Easter egg hunt.
All Wayne Public Library events are free to attend, and any Wayne State College student can obtain a library card for free by bringing a college ID and proof of address to the Wayne Public Library circulation desk. For more information, call 402-375-3135 or visit www.cityofwayne.org/82/library.
