Former Huskers football player DeMoine Adams spread motivation during his leadership presentation on Nov. 12.
His talk focused on changing one’s mindset to overcome personal obstacles and formulating collective thinking among people.
Griffin Ryan, the student senate president for Wayne State College, illustrated Adams’ trip to campus. Around this time each year, there is usually a shirt-sleeve event where a big speaker comes to campus to speak about their experiences. Even though Adams isn’t an alumnus, Ryan had heard great things about him and the energy he brings with his presentations.
Ryan said having Adams come and present with finals around the corner would be extremely motivating. Not only was Adams personable in his speech, but Ryan felt that Adams exceeded the expectations for what was expected of his presentation as a whole.
Adams speech was built around the motto “Day by day getting better and better, a team that can’t be beat won’t be beat.” This phrase was formed by a multitude of underlying themes, one being if people work together as a team, they will build a bond strong enough to break through the walls of adversity.
Adams continued to explain the importance of bonding with one another regardless of socioeconomic background or skin color. He took pride in saying that humanity’s downfall is itself, meaning if people continuously separate themselves through societal boundaries, they will stunt their own growth as people.
Adams spoke about leadership and how playing your role is the key to the success of everyone around you. He also said being able to have a team mindset is what separates winners from losers.
One of the biggest points that Adams wanted to make clear was that “everyone has leadership, but the difference is how we use it.” He said everyone should feel responsibility through this leadership and that it should be used to treat, uplift and inspire one another. Adams even went as far as to say every battle isn’t meant to be won, but when a battle is fought, it should be done together.
