Liz Liston, a senior at Wayne State College, won the $3,000 Jo Anne J. Trow Undergraduate Scholarship from the Alpha Lamba Delta honor society.
Alpha Lamba Delta is an honor society for undergraduate freshman founded in 1924. Its mission is to “encourage superior academic achievement, to promote intelligent living and a continued high standard of learning and to assist students in recognizing and developing meaningful goals for their unique roles in society.”
Alpha Lamba Delta works to recognize students’ academic success in their first year across 280 colleges. The Jo Anne J. Trow Scholarship honors Jo Anne Trow, who served as president of Alpha Lamba Delta from 1974-1988.
Liz was the only person from WSC to receive the scholarship. She was picked from a selection committee made up of Alpha Lamba Delta chapter advisors. Alpha Lamba Delta awarded 50 scholarships this year. They were five $6,000 awards, 10 $3,000 awards, 10 $2,000 awards and 25 $1,000 awards.
The criteria for the scholarship were essay submissions, one year of undergrad, a transcript and a reference. Applicants must also pay their membership dues and have a GPA of 3.3 or higher.
“Liz has been a great student through her time here and extremely active on campus. She deserved this scholarship greatly,” Alex Anderson, president of Alpha Lamba Delta, said.
