Wayne State’s Student Senate met on Monday, Nov. 4 to discuss upcoming events like World Diabetes Day and Thanksgiving Dinner, which will take place on Nov. 27 and other matters.
Senators discussed wearing blue on Nov. 14 for World Diabetes Day to raise awareness about low-income insulin and the technological advancements in that area of health.
The meeting moved on to discuss the retirement of the Peru State College president that took place in late November, an interim has already been placed.
The Senate then opened the floor up for discussion about the Student Trustee Application which closes at 5 p.m. Nov. 4. The selection process has already begun, and student applications were described as “strong”.
Senator Hoffschneider proposed a change to the language of Article IV, section 4 of the Wayne State Student Senate Constitution. Hoffschneider also proposed updating Article II, Section 1 of the Constitution to read the language concerning the role of President Pro-Tempore.
The Allocations Committee is now officially co-chaired by the Vice President Luke Polacek and President Griffin Ryan of WSC Student Senate. This verdict was tabled indefinitely.
The Student Senate proposed the Adoption of Resolution 41, a motion to allocate $335.66 to the NSCS Conference Banquet cost. This movement was proposed by President Pro-Tempore Herrig, seconded by Senator Wilkinson and passed.
Senators then proposed the Adoption of Resolution 42, a motion to allocate $90 from the Student Senate budget to purchase a sympathy basket for the Chadron State College Student Senate. This resolution was proposed by Senator Wilkinson, seconded by Senator Jepsen and passed.
Members of Student Senate would like to extend gratitude to those who aided with efforts regarding past items like the Festival of Trees and a successful conference during the week prior.
The next Student Senate meeting is scheduled for November 21.
