Wayne State College held a fundraiser at Culver’s in Norfolk to support the campus food pantry to raise funds on Nov 5.
A percentage of the proceeds from Culver’s that day were donated to the pantry, which serves students in need and provides them with canned goods and school supplies.
Taylor Thorp, a senior at WSC and the student pantry coordinator, shared that the collaboration was made possible through the efforts of Professor Laura Dendinger and one of her graduate students who previously worked at Culver’s.
“Dr. Dendinger, me and some of her students were there to help, passing out food and thanking everyone who came out to support the pantry,” Thorp said. “It was great to see the community show up and be interested in helping out the students at Wayne State College.”
The event was a success, though the exact amount raised will not be disclosed. Thorp showed her excitement over the funds saying they will be used to purchase more food for the pantry.
“We had a really good outcome,” she said. “These funds will help us provide more resources for students who rely on the pantry.”
Wayne State’s food pantry is located on campus, in Morey Hall and operates Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7 to 9 p.m., and Wednesdays from 8-10 a.m.
