A Wayne State College student recital showcasing seniors Christopher Woerdemann and Logan Hellerich will take place on Nov. 11 at the Ley Theatre at 7:30 p.m.
The recital will consist of Hellerich performing vocal pieces and Woerdemann performing a mix of vocal and piano pieces. This recital is a junior and senior recital which is a requirement for music education majors. “Junior and senior recitals are one of those final steps for a music education or performance major to showcase their proficiency in their main instruments,” Hellerich said.
The pieces are selected between the performer and their lesson teachers. The pieces have to meet certain criteria and genres. Each performer has around 30 minutes of prepared repertoire for the recital. “One of my pieces is Prelude in G Minor by Sergei Rachmaninoff and has been one of my dream pieces to play since I heard it in high school,” Woerdemann said.
Woerdemann is a pre-K-12 vocal & instrumental music education major. He is not quite sure what his plans are after he graduates, but he is deciding between graduate school for choral conducting and becoming a high school choir teacher.
Woerdemann said he tries to practice his pieces five times a week for a couple of hours a day but has been preparing his pieces all summer. “I have luckily not had to stress about spending countless hours in the practice room,” Woerdermann said.
Hellerich is a K-12 vocal & instrumental music education major also. He plans after graduation to go back to Shelton High School and be a music teacher.
This is not Hellerich’s first recital. Hellerich has done countless recitals all in voice. “You have to perform at least one a semester so this would be at least my tenth,” Hellerich said The recital is open to the public. “Logan and I have been preparing this literature for a while now, a lot of hours have gone into this program, so it would mean a lot to us if people came to support our music,” Woerdemann said.
