CatPac will host a Spookeasy event on Oct. 30.
The Spookeasy is set for 7 p.m. in the Frey Suite of Kantar Student Center. Spookeasy is based on speakeasys that were popular during the 1920s Prohibition. Speakeasys were hidden clubs where people danced, partied and drank.
CatPac is dividing the suite into quarters, with three sections being escape rooms and the fourth being where food will be. The event will have mocktails, a dessert bar, candy station, photo booth and a costume contest where students can win prizes. CatPac executive director, Liz Liston said students are not required to dress up for the event; that’s only if they want to participate in the costume contest.
Three escape rooms will be presented at the Spookeasy, each with different themes: “Walking Dead”/Zombie, “Coraline” and one after the movie “Long Legs.” Students can sign up for these escape rooms in the activies office from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 to 4:45 p.m. Those who reserved a spot will make their run-throughs between 5-7 p.m., before the event, and once the event starts, they will be allowing walk-ins. CatPac is allowing groups of five to eight to participate in these escape rooms. If students do not have enough people, they will assign groups.
CatPac earlier held a Summoning Spirits event in Ramsey Theatre on Oct. 22. Liston said this was a magic/horror show. They brought in the creator of the show, Peter Boie, to perform this “seance meets magic show.” This show was interactive and combined live performance with magic and storytelling. In the show, Boie brought old legends to life, explaining where they occurred. Preceding the event, CatPac had a caramel apple bar at the Pile Hall fire pit where students could decorate caramel apples with the many toppings that were provided.
