Coming off a road win against Winona State, Wayne State College heads into the bye week before the homecoming game against Minot State.
The team gets well rested after four tough matchups and having three wins to one loss record. Linebacker Dexter Larsen emphasizes how the team resets and refuels during the bye week.
“I think we’re treating it how we should,” Larsen said. “We’re using it to rest, mentally and physically, and I think it’s been great for that. We’ve toned down the volume a little bit on the practice field, but we’ve upped it in the weight room, so, I mean, we’re still getting still getting that high intensity during the bye week, but also being able to rest a little bit on the football side. But other than that, I mean, we’re taking care of academics, rest and mentally is a big thing as well, as well as physically, so I think we’re attacking it great as best we could.”
Quarterback Nick Bohn went in depth on how the team is feeling after the first four weeks of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play and dealing with recent injuries, especially injuries in the running back room to Dawson Forgy and Latravious Boyd.
“Yeah, I think being 3-1, we’re ought to be in a good spot,” Bohn said. “I mean, we’d love to be 4-0, but I think we got all our goals in front of us, so I think we’re happy and motivated too for the second half of the season. Yeah, I think we’re doing good. I mean, it’s definitely next man up in mentality and we’re coaching the guys up. that got to step in the big rolls, and I know they’re ready to perform. I mean Akeem (Knox) did it came to last week, so I think they’re ready to go.”
Both Larsen and Bohn are captains of the football team and are leaders on the stat sheet with Bohn leading the team with 741 passing yards with 11 passing touchdowns and Larsen leading the team with 30 total tackles of the season. WSC will face Minot State for their next game on Saturday, October 5 for the Wildcats homecoming game.
