Wayne State College’s 2024 Homecoming Royalty Coronation was held in Ramsey Theatre on Sept. 30.
The candidates for homecoming court this year were Autunm Bender from Humphrey, Braxton Dalton from Raymond, Bre Matzen from Blair, Coen Herring form Wall Lake, Iowa, Emily Woockman from Wausa, Emma Wilkinson form Battle Creek, Griffin Ryan from Wahoo, Maya Couch from David City, Raegan Fries from Grand Island and Sadie Holmes from Minden.
The winners, Bre Matzen and Coen Herring, were announced on Monday, Sept. 30. Last year’s homecoming royalty, Naudia Larsen and Dusty Butler, were present to give the winners their sashes.
Matzen, a junior majoring in PK-12 Vocal and Instrumental Music Education and Music Performance, is a drum major for the marching band involved in the Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble as well as the Concert and Chamber Choirs at WSC, and she is a Wayne State Music Academy voice teacher.
She serves as President of the Honors Club, Vice President for the National Association for Music Education, a Peer Mentor for the Holland Academic Success Center, a music tutor and a Nebraska virtual SMART tutor. Matzen is also a Neihardt scholar.
Herrig, a senior majoring in Accounting and Management, is a member of Delta Sigma Pi and is also an active member of the WSC Student Senate.
The families and friends of the candidates attended the ceremony for photos and refreshments after the ceremony while CatPac members were present to sell homecoming t-shirts and buttons.
