Wayne State College will be hosting the Career and Internship Fair on Oct. 9 if the Frey Suite.
Over 100 businesses and employers will be attending, and another 25 are already on the waiting list for next year.
“How can I possibly get more employers for our students?” was Tracy Lungrin’s thought process when creating the CIF this October.
“A lot of employers are offering internships and jobs… employers in North-East Nebraska are starting to see the value in recruiting Freshman and Sophomore year students,” she said.
Career Scholars is a program Lungrin has assisted with, and the program is designed to create networking opportunities for younger students.
“A lot of times employers come and only want to talk to juniors and seniors when they should be talking to first- and second-year students about the opportunity in their field,” Lungrin said. “With the assistance of technology, we’ve managed to create and categorize employers based on what programs and companies could assist them. We have gone through all of our 100 employers and highlighted the ones that have specific majors in mind.”
The technology mentioned was an idea implemented from Lungrin’s prior employer that allows students and employers alike to research and communicate before the event. It also will allow students to engage more personally with employers that could be looking for a specific major.
Lungrin pointed out these new technologies aren’t the only way WSC is managing to assist students in improving their networking. Students can find professional attire to look sharp with the help of the FBLA and the Wildcat Career Closet.
The WCC is offering clothes for the students in need in a cheaper, much more accessible manner.
“We want students to thrift, and we want it to be sustainable and affordable,” Lungrin said.
Students can collect items of clothing from the Haan Administration building or several locations in Wayne. The FBLA requests that all donations are gently used and even provided a list of several items of clothing they need especially. These items include dress pants, skirts, jackets, shirts, and belts.
Education majors will have a career fair in the spring that is in collaboration with 80 different schools.
