On the evening of this Thursday, Sept. 26th, Christian Student Fellowship (CSF) will be hosting its annual Volleynighter.
Starting at 9 p.m. and going all night, or until all of the games are over, the sand volleyball tournament will be held outside of the 4th Jug at the sand courts and is free for anyone to sign up or walk on. The teams are six-person and co-ed, but students can also show up to Volleynighter as walk-ons if they don’t have a team already. Students can sign-up a team to play through the link on their Instagram page, @wsccsf, or sign-up to be a walk-on player. Walk-on players will be given a team once they arrive at the tournament.
Sara Wright and Rob and Lauren Prucha, the campus ministers for CSF, are the individuals working hard to put this together every year. Their ultimate goal for Volleynighter is for students to come and use it as an opportunity to be ministers to other students. This is also an opportunity to encourage other students to start coming to CSF, which is held every Sunday night at 6 p.m. at the Table Coffeehouse.
Tyler Lucas, a student who actively attends CSF on Sunday nights, said he has never attended the Volleynighter. However, after being involved in CSF for the last year, he’s come to realize how important it is for the organization to host these events in order for students to be ministers on campus.
“The Volleynighter does sound like a lot of fun,” Lucas said. “But not only that, it sounds like a great way to recruit other students to come to CSF and learn about Jesus.” Lucas said he could make it to the event, but hopes for a good turnout anyways.
Hadley Dake, a junior at Wayne State College, said she is on a team competing during Volleynighter. This is her first year both playing and going to the Volleynighter.
“I’m just excited to see what it’s all about and I’m playing on a team so I think that should be fun!” Dake said.
After the tournament is over, the winning team will receive six golden volleyballs, one for each member of the team. In addition, the remaining top eight teams will receive free t-shirts. Crazy Jacks food truck will be serving food throughout the night for all team members and anyone there to watch. The campus ministers of CSF recommend bringing blankets or a chair to the event, as the weather is projected to be chilly.
