Pi Gamma Mu’s annual Book and Bake Sale will be back once again this semester in Connell Hall’s lobby from Sept. 24-25.
The event will be hosted from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. later this month. Every fall, PGM hosts a book and bake sale, an event the club’s adviser, professor Randy Bertolas, enjoys being a part of.
The sale acquires baked goods and books through donations, so people often bring homemade goods and used books.
The books come in different varieties and genres, with the bestselling books being children’s books along with novels, cookbooks and biography books. Paperbacks are sold for 50¢ each while hardcover books are sold for $1 each.
“They accept anything and everything,” Bertolas said. “Everyone has a specialty. My wife makes caramel popcorn balls that everyone enjoys.”
Bertolas has been helping with the Book and Bake Sale since 1998. He said the goal this year is to raise at least $700.
The money raised by the sale is used to fund student trips. One location students have had the opportunity to visit is Philidelphia. Revenue has also been used to help fund student service projects.
Leftover money is sometimes spent on supplying pizza for meetings or donated to organizations such as Haven House, a non-profit organization that works to provide resources to those who have experienced domestic abuse, or local pet shelters.
Bertolas said the sale helps reuse and recycle books while also giving back to the community. This event also allows students to collaborate and network with other students as well as faculty. The motto Bertolas likes to follow is “just have fun.”
The event will be held in the lobby of Connell Hall from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 24-25.
