WSC collabs with reproductive clinic to bring awareness to student health

Wayne State College is partnering with Midtown Reproductive Health Clinic to provide students with an in depth sexual education.

Midtown Reproductive Health Clinic provides essential reproductive health services to WSC students, offering a range of support regardless of insurance coverage. Located within the student health office at Providence Medical Center in Wayne, the clinic operates with the aim of ensuring access to confidential and affordable care for all students.

Under the guidance of Carla Wilkinson, an advanced practice registered nurse specializing in women’s health, the clinic wants to address the reproductive health needs of all individuals. Carla will be at WSC Student Health the on Feb. 22, Mar. 28 and Apr. 26.

Mary Smith, a registered nurse at Midtown, said grants enable Midtown Health to offer services such as providing students with birth control, a reproductive health education and STD testing on a monthly basis. The clinic serves as a convenient option for students seeking reproductive healthcare. While the primary focus of the clinic is on women’s health, men can also benefit from free STD testing and education provided by the clinic.

Smith said community outreach is important and Midtown Health wants to extend its services beyond traditional office settings to reach those in need.

Students can easily schedule appointments at the student health office in the Kanter Student Center. The student health center is open from 8 A.M. to 5 P.M. on weekdays. Students can also schedule appointments via phone call.

Kathy Bird, a registered nurse at the student health office, said the accessibility and affordability of these services are crucial for students who may not have access to similar clinics elsewhere.

In addition to reproductive health services, Midtown Health operates various offices across Nebraska, offering medical, dental, and mental health services either for free or at an affordable cost. Students in need of these services can easily make appointments through the clinic’s website or by phone during business hours. An after-hours nurse is also available for emergencies outside regular hours.
