New Podcast on 91.9 The Cat

KWSC 91.9 The Cat is adding podcasts to bring new light to the radio station.

The Cat is the student-run radio station at Wayne State College. The station has been adding more voices on the air and trying to find new specialty shows. One of the new shows is “2 Girls in the World,” by Alondra Castillo and Becca Arkfeld. The show features the two talking about all sorts of things from their favorite music, to the weather, and what is going on in the world.

“We have been wanting to start a podcast for a while,” Arkfeld said. “We have been talking about it for a year and a half since I took an audio class and we were finally able to make it.”

“We have the same energy and can feed off of each other,” Castillo said. They both said it is really fun to do it together and create the podcast.

Their first episode featured lots of topics. First, they love to talk about the music they are listening to.

“After we talk about the songs we like, we play them as little breaks in the podcasts for people to hear,” Arkfeld said. They also discuss the media they are consuming, movies they are watching, and just general life. As two girls in a male-dominated field, they are trying to bring a little power to women.

“We talk about feminism a lot as we are both waitresses and have experience of being a woman and being objectified,” Arkfeld said.

“It is good to have a podcast hosted by two women in this world and just talk about what is happening,” Castillo said.

On air currently, there are two other podcasts hosted by males, bringing even more new voices to the station.

“We are bringing new pop culture to the station,” Arkfeld said. “This podcast is truly something that can be whatever we want to share.” The girls are trying to have fun. “We want to be taken seriously, but we are joking and having fun. We also want the people listening to have fun too,” Arkfeld said. The girls are really just trying to be two girls in the world.

The podcast airs Wednesday night, at 7 pm on 91.9 The Cat. They are looking to post it on Spotify as another platform for people to listen. To find out more information and follow along on their podcast journey, follow their Instagram at “2grlzinthewrld”.
