The WSC Rec Center is offering free fitness classes to all students, faculty and staff starting Jan. 14.
Due to construction at the Rec Center, the classes will be held in Connell Hall room 01 in the basement. Instructor Angela Nuss is offering various classes including cycling, Pilates, yoga and others. Sign-ups began Dec. 26, and people can still sign up if they are a student, faculty or staff member at WSC.
“The IMLeagues app will allow you to register for the class so you can basically save a spot,” Nuss said. “We have limited bikes and one is for me, so we have a limit of five in that class. Also, the room isn’t huge, so we don’t want to have tons of people in there trying to work out.”
Nuss has been running these classes for several years, so they’re nothing new for her.
“I came to Wayne State to complete my master’s degree, and then I was pointed in the direction to continuing teaching fitness classes over to Mike Berry,” she said. “I told him what I do, and he got me on a schedule so to speak to teach some fitness classes.”
The classes run Sunday through Thursday with a different class on each day. Sundays include Killer Kettlebells at 6:15-6:45 p.m. and Rhythm Ride at 7:00 p.m. Mondays are for Pilates, a more intense version of yoga, at 4:15-5:00 p.m. Tuesdays include Cycle360 with core work from 5:15-6:00 p.m. and yoga from 6:15-7:00 p.m. Wednesdays have Buns & Bellies from 5:15-5:45 p.m. and Spin & Sculpt, which is bike and strength training, from 7:15-8:15 p.m.
The key to these classes is that anyone can join regardless of major or experience. Nuss will be continuing these classes in later years if you missed out this year or just didn’t have the time to participate. However, these will be running all semester except for Spring break (March 4-8) and Easter Sunday, so there will be plenty of time to join your favorite class.
