A concert and dinner are being held in the Peterson Fine Arts instrumental hall to celebrate the holiday season by the Wayne State Choirs during the first weekend of December.
The Cocoa and Carols concert is on Dec. 2.
During Cocoa and Carols, there will be a concert and a variety of hot cocoa and coffee on the tables for guests to enjoy. During intermission, cheesecakes will be given to the guests, Matthew Armstrong, the director of choral activities, said.
The dinner concert is on Dec. 3. Serving a full meal of chicken and vegetables to guests.
“It is a very nice meal,” Armstrong said. The guests will enjoy their meal before the concert. Cheesecakes will also be served at intermission.
Tickets for the events are on sale until Nov. 22. Tickets will cost $10 for Cocoa and Carols and $30 for the concert dinner. The cost directly goes towards the cost of the food and decorations. Space is limited to 196 guests per concert.
Prices are lower than previous years because the choirs are able to use their own building instead of having to rent the space, Armstrong said. In past years the choirs have performed at the Beaumont Event Center in Wayne for the concerts.
Moving the concert on campus is expected to get more students to attend, Armstrong said. “The students enjoy singing for an audience,” he said. “I don’t take for granted that people are busy but any support to make it a great experience for them is greatly appreciated.”
The theme of the concerts is “Peace and Goodwill,” Armstrong said. The songs the choirs of 123 students will be singing include but are not limited to, “Sing We Noel” and “Peace Peace Silent Night.” During the last song the choir will light candles and surround the audience. The choir will be joined by Matthew Clegg to sing “God Bless Us Everyone” from the “Christmas Carol”.
“I am really excited to perform this piece for everyone,” Kaitlyn Michaelson, a member of the Wayne State Choir, said. “Dr. Clegg has an incredible voice.” Michaelson’s favorite piece the choir will be singing is the collaboration with Clegg.
Going along with the theme of the concerts there are a few French pieces as well. “Some of the songs really hit hard with what is going on the world,” Armstrong said.
