Student Senate Hosts First Meeting of November

The Wayne State Student Senate met on Monday for its first meeting in November to discuss and approve three resolutions.

Student Senate President Addie Hejl said the first involved the creation of an off-campus bank account.

Student Senate plans on adding a fundraising committee and the intent of this account will be to put our fundraised money into this with the hopes of it accumulating over time. We intend on using this money for things such as more fundraising, tabling events, sweatshirts, etc.,” Hejl said.

The second point on the docket was more related to community service, an undertaking to keep the streets of Wayne clean.

The second of the resolutions passed was for Student Senate to adopt part of the highway to upkeep and maintain,” Hejl said. “This will be a good project for our Senate, as we will be building community within our group while giving back to Wayne County.”

Resolution Three again involved money flow on campus, as Senate announced it would no longer reimburse other college departments for travel expenses.

“We decided that this was not the Senate’s responsibility and that it will promote fiscal responsibility within those traveling for academic purposes,” Hejl said.

“They are good resolutions, and they will help us improve some important things in Student Senate,” Senate member Logan Holoubek said.

Plans for future meetings include revamping the Student Senate Constitution as well as creating a subcommittee to focus on fundraising. Initial planning for an upcoming Casino Night is also in the works.

President Hejl welcomes every and any student to attend the meetings, regardless of if they are in Senate or not. Meetings are every other Monday evening at 7 p.m. in Connell 131. If students have any suggestions, Senate has a suggestion box outside of their office in the lower cafeteria where students can give their input.
