New floral shop thrives in Wayne

I Wet My Plants, a floral shop located in Wayne, is a new, growing business started by Katelynn Broders.

After living here for the past eight years, [first name] Broders decided to bring her crafty personality out by opening her own floral shop. I Wet My Plants opened six months ago after Broders went through lots of different paperwork and worked with people, including the Nebraska Business District.

“We have a fresh floral supplier that we get our plants from, Broders said. “Some of our plants are propagated by us. We don’t have a greenhouse or anything, but we do like to propagate here.”

In addition to offering many different kinds of plants and arrangements, the shop also offers charcuterie boards, candy bouquets, custom shirts, signs, and mugs, along with wine and other various items. Broders even got voted best florist in Wayne by the Wayne Herald.

When deciding on a name for her business, Broders tossed around different ideas including “Market Botanical.” When discussing the name, “I Wet My Plants,” she was worried about many different things. Her biggest concern was funerals. She decided she likes the idea of “bringing a smile to people’s faces” when they are going through a hard time. After that, “the name just stuck,” Broders said.

Delaney Hardies has been working for the floral shop since it opened six months ago.

“I really enjoy getting to help people execute their ideas,” Hardies said. “I like to be creative when putting people’s orders together.”

Hardies and Broders worked together in the past, and Hardies was looking for a job change when she joined Broder’s team. Broders’ husband also helps out with the shop along with a few Wayne State College students.

Broders worried about “not having a good business background” since this is the first business she has owned. Something she has learned in the past six months is to plan ahead and create a timeline in order to help run her business better.

Every month, I Went My Plants tries to do an event night. These nights vary from porch signs to parent/kid ornament making. On December 7, the shop is planning a Daddy-Daughter night to make a corsage and boutonniere for a Daddy-Daughter school dance.

During the rest of October, the shop has pink colored flower bouquets for $30 for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. For more information contact Katelynn Broders through Instagram and Facebook @iwetmyplantsne or email [email protected].
