From October 24 to October 26, FBLA held a Career Clothing Closet for all students on campus during the Morey Food Pantry hours.
After two years of being considered an active program, FBLA members began collecting donations before the event in hopes of having a substantial amount of professional attire for students to choose from. The overall goal of the program is to provide students with that type of clothing since they might not have access to it otherwise.
Chapter president Payden Tracy said this year will be another year of success, as they hoped to get another good turn out.
“This project is very important to us because we have seen a great need on campus for students to have good, usable business clothes for job interviews, career fairs, and their current and future jobs,” Tracy said.
Representing FBLA as the president, Tracy knows just how important it is for students in FBLA to have access to professional business attire.
“It’s important to us that we provide help for our members and fellow students to gear them up for success,” Tracy said. “That’s what FBLA Collegiate is all about – preparing students for the business world.”
Braxton Dalton, sophomore at Wayne State College, is one of many members who was particularly excited about this program and the purpose behind it.
“It’s a really fun program,” Dalton said. “It gets us involved in the community as well as gets us involved here on campus.”
“FBLA teamed up with one of Dr. Dendinger’s classes and we collected donations from the Wayne community, as well as Micah’s closet, of business attire for people to look professional for the upcoming career fair here on campus,” Dalton said. “Students will have the opportunity to come into the Morey pantry and they can take articles of clothing for that day.”
While the members of FBLA don’t plan on this being an ongoing event, they hope to provide more opportunities like this in the future, such as a coat drive.
