Wildcat track and field team places top five in Minnesota

The Wayne State Wildcats track and field team traveled to Mankato, Minnesota for the Mark Schuck invite hosted by MSU-Mankato. The invite hosted over 15 schools during the two day meet. NSIC schools such as Augustana, Concordia St. Paul, Sioux Falls, St. Cloud and Winona Sate all made the trip to Mankato for the meet.
Brooklynn Chipps, a senior thrower, hit a provisional mark with 63’ 7 ½”, qualifying her for NCAA Indoor Nationals in early March.
Also in women’s throws, senior Kendra Paasch finished third with a throw of 54’ 2 ¾ and Brooke Languis, a sophomore, ended with a second-place finish in shot put, throwing a 44’9”. Anna Coffee, a freshman jumper, placed first in the Pentathlon High Jump with 5’3 ¾ and 4th overall in the Womens Pentathlon.
The Wildcats’ top five finishes featured Emily Smollen in long jump (4th), Keyla Sambo in triple jump (4th), Sarah Cotton in the 200m dash (5th) and Kelsey Larsen in the 3000m (5th). The women’s team placed fifth overall in the meet finishing with 58 total points, trailing Concordia St. Paul who finished with 59.5 points in fourth place.
On the men’s side, sophomore jumper Logan Moeller once again finished first in triple jump and long jump. In triple jump, Moeller recorded 47’ 5 ¾ and in the long jump 23’ 8 ¼. The men’s team finished in second place overall at the meet with 99 total points and a few first-place finishes.
The Distance Medley team featuring Brandon Mundorf, Austin Madsen, Gabe Peitz and Quentin Dreyer ended up first with a time of 10 minutes and 17 seconds. Peitz individually placed first in the 800m with a time of 1 minute and 59 seconds. Edgar Rodriguez, Mitchell Rudie, Madsen and Alex Leuenberger who were part of the 4×400 relay team, finished in third place for the event.
Many events at the Mark Schuck invite featured Wildcats with top five finishes. Junior jumper Dylan Kneifl finished second in the high jump with 6’ 8 ¾. Other cats with top five finishes featured Debonaire Williams with a fifth place finish overall in the men’s decathlon, Will McGonigal placed fifth in the 3,000 and Titus Kiptoo with a fifth place finish in the 5,000m.
The Wildcats will return to Concordia for the second time this season to compete at the Concordia Classic this upcoming weekend.
