Students Can Register to Vote

With elections coming up in November, students should think about getting registered to vote. 

Getting registered to vote is an easy process one can do online.  

According to How to Easily Register to Vote In Nebraska – Nebraska Family Alliance, “We all know voting is important but sometimes the process can be intimidating. A critical step in ensuring that you can vote on election day is to register.”  

In Nebraska, you can register to vote online, by email or in person.  

According to How to Easily Register to Vote in Nebraska – Nebraska Family Alliance, “The deadline for registering on line or by mail is Oct. 19. You can still register in person up to Oct. 26 by six p.m. Central Standard Time.” 

To register online, students can go to Nebraska Secretary of State – Voter Registration Portal. They will go through some prompts and begin the registration process.  

After registering to vote, many students might need to request an absentee ballot.  

According to Early Voting | Nebraska Secretary of State “You can apply for an early-voting ballot by contacting your county election office by mail or by fax. You can print an online early voting application, complete the form, and then mail, fax, or scan/take a picture of your application and email it to your county election office.”  

The last day one can apply for an absentee ballot is the second Friday before the upcoming election.  

According to Voting Rates by Age (census.gov), in 2016 only 45% of 18- to 29-year-old turned out to vote compared to over 70% of those 65 or older. By knowing how to vote and get an absentee ballot students can easily vote in this upcoming election 

Voting for the U.S. House of Representatives will take place on Nov. 8.

The primary was held May 10 of this year. Candidates from district one are Mike Flood, republican incumbent, and democrat Patty Pansing Brooks. For district two there is republican incumbent Don Bacon and democrat Tony Vargas. In district three there are three candidates republican incumbent Adrian Smith, Democrat David Else, and third party candidate Mark Elworth Jr. 

Other positions being voted on are governor, state senate, state supreme court and other positions
