Siblings Weekend at Wayne State College

Younger siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members of Wayne State College students are all welcome to the Little Siblings Weekend at Wayne State College, during the weekend of September 24 and 25.

For the first time in over two years, Wayne State College Little Sibs Weekend makes a return to campus. It is expected to have a great turnout, and many fun activities are planned for the participants. The weekend activities will be running in conjunction with the Family Day activities also taking place Saturday of that weekend. “We will be encouraging all Little Sibs participants to participate in the Saturday Family Day events that are already planned. Then, on Sunday, we will invite them to the dining center for brunch and end the weekend with a campus-wide scavenger hunt!”  said Abby Shuck, the associate director of residence education and staff development.

This year, the Little Sibs Weekend will be returning for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic. Shuck said, “this is the first year we’ve hosted Little Sibs Weekend since before COVID, so we’re excited to bring it back,” Shuck said, “Prior to that time, Little Sibs Weekend ran for many successful years. Shuck said “With the return, the number of participants is growing into substantial numbers. “We’re thinking we’ll have around 40-50 participants this year based on current sign-ups,”

The younger siblings will also have an opportunity to experience dorm life, by being able to stay with their siblings in the residence hall dorm rooms throughout the weekend. “Each little sib will be staying in the residence hall room with their big sib.”  said, Abby Shuck

Shuck described the process of advertising the event to the campus, saying how they sent out a mass email to all residents living on campus, and how a lot of word of mouth advertising was done by members of the Residence Hall Association and the Residence life staff. Promotion was a major part of the event due to the COVID pandemic causing the two year absence.

The WSC Little Sibs weekend is an event that took a lot of hard work to bring back to the Wayne State College students and its return marks a great revival of a beloved tradition of students and their families. “We’re excited to bring it back this year,” said Shuck, “and it’s looking to be a great success.” The weekend will be from Saturday, September 24 to Sunday, September 25 and will be alongside the Family Day held during that time.
