Hippie Chicken Stands Out in Wayne

The Hippie Chicken has been open for business in Wayne for a few months now and with a name like ‘Hippie Chicken’ it stands out from other businesses in town.

The Hippie Chicken is a smoke shop that opened earlier this year on 311 Main St. in downtown Wayne. Hippie Chicken’s owner Jeremy Sadofksy, a native Nebraskan, previously was at Gypsies Smoke Shop in South Sioux City before making his way to Wayne.

He said his daughter, a former student at Wayne State College, suggested that he open a shop in Wayne. Before Hippie Chicken, Wayne did not have a smoke shop. The closest one being in Norfolk.

“It took a little while, then I found the location and it worked out,” Sadofsky said. “It goes to show that it doesn’t have to be like a huge city, that’s what I’ve learned over the last six months. If it’s a town of 4,500 or like under 5,000 and then the population doubles when schools in session, and with the surrounding population, it’s the same as being in a mid to smaller city.”

With college starting recently he said that he has seen a bump in sales, but he is conscious of the 800 new freshmen attending this year. Products containing nicotine are not to be sold to persons under the age of 21.

The Hippie Chicken sells more than just the items that can be found at a smoke shop.

“Some of it is stuff that I feel would be related to the counterculture industry or smoke shops or vape shops,” Sadofsky said. “With the glass or the hookahs and hookah tobacco vapes and those products there is basically a set of staple items to carry, if this was the business you were going to get into.”

The Hippie Chicken sells t-shirts, baja hoodies, hats, chargers, glassware, and products containing nicotine which can be highly addictive.

The Hippie Chicken is open from Monday through Wednesday 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Thursday through Saturday 10 a.m.-11 p.m. and Sunday from 12 p.m.-9 p.m.
