A Fulbright informational meeting will be held on March 17 to provide students with information about how to apply to live and work abroad through their program.

The meeting will be held in Connell Hall room 131 and will run from 3:30-4:30 p.m. This will be an informational meeting to go over requirements for applicants, benefits received during the program, what the program is, timelines, how to apply and any questions students may have about the program or application process.

Some requirements for application are that the applicant must be a U.S. citizen and is a senior, about to graduate or has graduated recently. Applicants must have at least a bachelor’s degree, but students of all degree fields are welcome to apply. There may also be country specific requirements. To apply, students should prepare a Fulbright application in the summer for submission by early September

Students who apply and are accepted into the program will receive benefits while abroad. These benefits include round-trip airfare, monthly stipend for the length of the award, and supplemental health and accident insurance. Participants will also receive language or orientation programs if applicable.

The Fulbright program provides funds for individual research or study projects or English teaching assistant programs. When part of the program students will meet, work, live with and learn from the people of the host country. The program sends students to one of more than 155 countries.

The Fulbright Student Program facilitates a cultural exchange through direct interaction. Students will interact with the people of the host country on an individual basis and will learn from them in the classroom, field, home and while doing routine tasks.

The program allows students to gain an appreciation of others’ viewpoints and beliefs, through the way they do things, and the way they think. Students will interact with their hosts in an open atmosphere, with academic integrity and intellectual freedom.
