The 2021-2022 season ended for the Wildcat track team last week.

The men’s team placed 7th in the Northern Sun Conference and the women’s team placed 8th in the conference. The wildcats also sent two throwers to nationals, McKenzie Scheil and Brooklynn Chipps in the weight throw. There were also two jumpers that were just short of making nationals after having national provisional qualifying marks, Dylan Kneifl in the high jump and Logan Moeller in triple jump.

“We placed one place higher than what preseason rankings had, it is always nice to exceed those expectations,” Track and Field Head Coach Marlon Brink said.

There were a few highlights that stuck out to coach Brink.

“McKenzie Scheil was an all American and those are not easy to come by in division two, we had a new school record with Logan Moeller in the triple jump,” Brink said.

Schiel posted a season record weight throw at the Division 2 track and field championships with a throw of 19.51m and landed her 6th in DII. Logan Moeller broke the school triple jump record by an inch and a half posting a jump of 14.78m. However, all around the track athletes had a good season

“We had quite a few personal records set this year, just to see the amount of improvement from the begging to the end of the season to reward to not just coaches but the athletes as well,” Brink said.

Head Throws Coach Carly Ferringer is excited about what is in store.

“Generally speaking, I think we have a lot of potential to score higher in the conference,” Ferringer said, “we are seeing a lot of success from all the groups scoring points in those 7th and 8th places is huge at the conference meet specially with our younger athletes having room to grow.”

The 2021 recruiting class was one of the biggest the track team has had.

“Considering we had a pretty young team we gained a lot of experience this year, I think we just needed to get our young athletes to see what the level of competition is like at the NSIC because it is one of the toughest conferences for track,” Ferringer said.

Wrapping up the 2021-2022 season was a thrill, but the track team is ready to take on the outdoor season.

“We are hoping to have a lot of supportive fans come out to our only home meet this year coming up March 25th next Friday and Saturday,” Brink said.
