Wayne State College students unleashed their artistic side by making earrings during the Student Activities Board Earring Making Event on January 19, 2022.

The artistic event was held in the Elkhorn Room of the Kanter Student Center and hosted by the SAB. It was the first event of the jewelry-making series for the new semester, and was inspired by a previous ring-making event dreamt up by SAB member Liz Barenburg.

“Liz had been holding crafty events all semester, and I wanted to hop on that bandwagon,” Zaynab Kouatli said.

SAB funded the event with WSC’s support that many clubs on campus receive during the semester.

SAB knows the positive effects of what this kind of event has on the WSC community.

During the event, students created earrings out of unique items such as mushrooms, flowers, boba tea, and fry pans.

“I think this event is important because we are in college,” Kouatli said. “We always have tests, homework and papers. It is just fun to make jewelry and take a break from all the stress.”

SAB activities like the earring-making event help cultivate a sense of community on campus. The activity provided an outlet for students that was both mentally and socially rewarding. SAB member Liz Barenburg is pleased with how popular the jewelry-making series has become.

“It is a great way to meet people and step out of your comfort zone,” Barenburg said.

This semester, the SAB Jewelry Series will also explore new kinds of jewelry like necklace night and more events to come in March. If interested, students can follow the WSC SAB Instagram, Facebook and/or Twitter Pages for more information about upcoming events.

SAB holds meetings every Wednesday night at 7 p.m. in the Bluestem Room. All students are welcome.
