The annual Winter Wonderland at Wayne State College is back. After being put on the backburner due to Covid, the Student Activities Board (SAB) is excited to announce the continuation of this annual event.

On Wednesday, December 1, from 6:30 – 9:30 p.m. in the Kanter Student Center, there will be various activities such as, but not only, crafts, refreshments, snacks and giveaways that are open to everyone on campus. The main activity at Winter Wonderland this year is new to this event but has been seen before on campus. These activities will be featured on SAB’s

Instagram (@wscsab) and Facebook (WSC SAB) pages as weekly reveals every Wednesday throughout the month of November.

“Sometimes it is hard to get traditions up and off the ground,” the Director of Student

Activities and Student Center, Amy White, said. She created the event 13 years ago while first attending WSC.

“I just thought the campus needed something that was kind of holiday/winter themed,” White said.

It started as an outdoor event with her parents dressing up as Santa and Mrs. Clause, and other activities such as hot chocolate, cookies, taking pictures, and hayrack rides. Over the years, activities have changed but “the idea remains of what it is supposed to be,” White said. “A time where students around campus can come together and enjoy themselves during the holiday and winter season.”

“We have gone through two years of students that don’t really know what to expect from the event,” the event organizer, Kailey Jensen, said.

According to Jensen, this gives them the opportunity to set the stage for upcoming years with different events and activities. “We have all been working on different aspects of it,” Jensen said.

They must cover everything about the event such as the marketing and social media, the planning, activities and crafts, tabling, giveaways, collaborations with other groups and putting on the actual event. “It’s going to be busy, but it will be fun,” Jensen said. There will be maps located at the entrances of the Kanter Student Center informing people what activities are happening where, as well as large signs outside of each room.
