Come see sopranos: Karlee Pinney and Sydney Folken perform on Nov. 13 at 3 p.m. Earlier in the day, Kaylee Moe will be performing on the tuba, with Mattie Kreifelson on the flute, and Kylie Hascall at 11 a.m. This Senior recital will be held at Brandenburg in the Ley Theatre.

Both Pinney and Folken will be singing pieces that showcase not only their vocal range but, their ability to sing in different languages as well. Moe, Kreifelson, and Hascall have all been assisted by Dr. David Bohnert as well as Shelly Armstrong.

“I have a half-hour rehearsal every week with our wonderful accompanist, Shelley Armstrong,” Hascall said. “I also meet with my lesson instructor,Bohnert, for an hour every week.”

Hascall is a fifth-year senior who admits she still gets nerves from time to time.

“I could play a piece almost perfectly by myself in a practice room, but as soon as you add an audience, playing becomes ten times more difficult,” Hascal said.

The Sopranos however seem to take a different approach to practicing.

“I practice about 3-4 times a week, for about 30-60 minutes,” Folken said.

When getting ready for a rehearsal, Folken says practice and repetition is crucial especially when dealing with multiple languages. She looks forward to listening to each performer.

“We get to watch everyone perform multiple time each year and getting to see how much each person has improved throughout their time at Wayne State is incredible,” Folken said.

The recital is free to attend and will take place in the Ley Theatre at 11 a.m., with the second recital following at 3 p.m. The performance will also be livestreamed at www.wsc.edu/watch-live. When live streaming, access to the recital’s program is online as well. The program can also be found at www.wsc.edu/music.
