WSC students took to the cards to win prizes at Casino Night at the Kanter Student Center Feb. 25.

Casino Night, hosted by the Student Senate and Student Activities Board, has been a tradition at WSC for many years and usually occurs in February. As students walked in the door, they received 20 tickets to use to win prizes. The students could also win more tickets by participating in the casino games including blackjack, craps, roulette and even a mechanical bull. Prizes included Cat-cash, gift cards to the bookstore, rokus, and Amazon firesticks. Key items many students were interested in included Apple airpods, won by Jayza Zoller and Jackson Petersen, and a Playstation 4, which was won by Taylor Ference. Corbin Foster won another big ticket item, an Xbox One.

Jorge Adame, the president of Student Senate, said there is no other event like Casino Night on campus and that is why Student Senate likes to sponsor it.

“All the senators have fun being the dealers and interacting with students,” Adame said. “At this point, Casino Night is a staple of Student Senate and we all look forward to it every year.”

An event like this brings out students to play and compete against each other in friendly competition. Student Mackenzie Attkisson said coming out to participate is a good social experience.

“It is a good social aspect and you can meet a lot of new people and meet your student leaders and get your voice out there,”Attkisson said.

Adame said Casino Night is a great opportunity for students because of its atmosphere. “Student Senate organizes the event in a way that it gives students the feel for a real casino with real games,” he said. “Plus who doesn’t want the opportunity to win prizes.”

The Student Activities Board assisted Student Senate by providing mock-tails and helped supply funding for prizes.

“Casino Night is a really fun tradition and it will definitely be a highlight of my term,” Adame said. “I will miss events like Casino Night when I graduate this May. I think for any student that may have missed out on it this year, they should for sure check it out next year.”
