WSC to sponsor 2020 Science Bowl

Question: From what specific celestial body do meteor showers originate? Answer: Comets.

Question: What is the sum of all interior angles, in degrees, in a regular polygon having 100 sides? Answer: 17,640.

Question: How many human ova are produced by a full round of meiosis from a single primary oocyte? Answer: One.

These are just some of the questions that students may be asked during this year’s Nebraska Science Bowl competitions.

Wayne State College is helping to sponsor the 25th annual Nebraska High School Science Bowl and the 17th annual Nebraska Middle School Science Bowl, to be to be held Feb. 1and Feb. 8 at WSC. 77 teams from schools across Nebraska will participate at the events.

Each team is made up of four students, one alternate and a teacher serving as coach. Teams have to be quick and have a vast knowledge of astronomy, biology, computer science, physics, chemistry, math and earth sciences. Teams compete by answering questions in a round-robin state bracket and then a double elimination tournament.

The winning team at each level will receive an all-expense paid trip to the National Science Bowl in Washington D.C. April 30-May 4.
