The Wayne State Wildcats fell short in the contest against the Concordia-St. Paul Golden Bears this past weekend, falling 28-21.

In the first quarter the Wildcats couldn’t get anything going as the Golden Bears came out and put up three points on the board as the second quarter went on quarterback Alex Thramer for the wildcats threw a 18-yard pass to junior running back Ryyan Wilkins to give the wildcats a 7-3 lead with 9:37 left in the second quarter.

With 2:46 left in the second quarter, the Wildcats scored again with a 11 yard run from running back Lorenzo logwood that gave the wildcats a nice lead heading into halftime but it left a little bit time for the Golden Bears as they came down the field with 27 seconds left and scored to go into halftime with the Wildcats with a 14-10 lead.

In the third quarter the Golden Bears kicked a field goal to have the score 13-14 for the bears but they wasn’t done yet as they got the ball back and scored on a 73-yard run from their quarterback to give them a lead 20-14 over the Wildcats.

Wildcats changed quarterbacks through the fourth quarter they put in redshirt freshman Tavian Willis who threw a 17-yard touchdown pass to Taurean Grady to give the Wildcats a 21-20 lead with 7:44 time left but then the Golden Bears came down the field with 12 plays for 75 yards for another touchdown for the Golden Bears to give them the lead and that would end up being the game 28-21.

“We played a great game our defensive and offensive has played the best that I have seen this season,” said starting free safety Kevin Ransom. “We have a chance being a great team this season it takes one step at a time and I think that we are going in that right direction.”

“We moved the ball well, but we need to work on finishing drives,” said senior Marquise Jones. “Once we can figure it out and punch it in the end zone well be a force to be reckoned with. We also need to come out of the half better. When we put four quarters together were un-stoppable.”

The Wildcats fell to 1-3 on the season and also 1-3 in conference play they look to come out next week against Minnesota Crookston with a different mindset to beat this team. The Wildcats are currently 4-0 against this team and look to add another win to the column.

Wayne State will play Minnesota Crookston Oct. 5 at 1 p.m. at home.
