‘Cats continue win streak in Florida

The Wayne State volleball team continued their winning streak after coming home with four wins in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on Sept. 13 and 14.

The Wildcats remain undefeated after another four-game win streak following the previous weekend in Joplin, Missouri. The Wildcats now have an 8-0 record. The ’Cats did not lose a set over the two days they played over the weekend pulling a 3-0 game score in all their games.

Wildcat senior Tarrin Beller won the MVP award for the tournament for her outstanding performance.

The ’Cats played Belmont Abbey in their first game on Sept. 13, and swept them away with a 3-0 win. The Wildcats had a .347 hitting percentage according to the stats on WSC’s volleyball page on its website. Freshman Kelsey Cada led the team with 10 kills in this match, followed by Beller with seven.

The Wildcats played their second game against Grand Valley State. The team forced the Lakers to lose their winning record, bringing it down to 3-3. Wayne State served eight aces. Beller had 11 kills against the Lakers.

On Sept. 14 the Wildcats started the day strong, defeating the Florida Tech Panthers. The first two sets were won 25-12 and the final set was 25-21. The Wildcats had a total of 41 kills in the match.

Wayne State defeated Southern New Hampshire University in their last match, solidifying their undefeated record.

“Our theme this season is that we are all working together climbing the mountain and we are taking one step at time and getting better with every rep,” Cada said. “We are going to push each other at practice but at the end of the day, we will always have each other’s backs.”

Wayne Sate’s next match is held at Minnesota State University Moorhead this Friday, Sept. 20.

The Wildcats will host Augustana for their first home game of the season on Sept. 24 at 6 p.m. Students are invited to wear black for the 14th annual Black Out/Pack the House Night sponsored by WSC S.P.O.R.T.S. Club and presented by PED 411 Sport Marketing & Promotion Class. The first 400 students to arrive to the game will receive a free t-shirt and students will have the chance to win prizes during the match.
