The danger of the Trump rhetoric

Justin Yost, Staff Writer

Several pipe bombs were sent to prominent Democrats, including the Clinton’s and the Obama’s, as well as the CNN headquarters.

The political views of the person who sent the bombs, Cesar Sayoc, has been no secret. His social media accounts are plastered with messages of support for President Donald Trump and memes attacking liberals.

According to a former boss, Sayoc considered himself a white supremacist, and wanted to put homosexuals and minorities on an island.

He told police after he was arrested the bombs wouldn’t hurt anyone and he didn’t want to hurt anyone. Federal authorities say the 14 pipe bombs sent were real and were a danger to the people he sent them too.

Sayoc kept a list of up to 100 potential targets, all who are Democrats or Republicans that have been critics of Trump.

Trump called for unity shortly after the discovery of the bombs, but changed his tone soon after. Trump has been doing this after every tragedy that has happened during his presidency. Calling for unity in a prepared statement given to him, but going onto twitter and blaming others.

This time after his calls for unity Trump took to twitter to blame the current landscape of shootings or sending of bombs on the mainstream media. Calling the media the enemy of the country. Not only is this claim false it further separates the people of our country. Calling the media the enemy of the country leads to newsroom shooting and bombs being sent to CNN and anyone else who defies Trump.

He did the same during his campaign rallies when protesters started showing up at his rallies. Telling his audience to knock the crap out of the protesters and that he would pay for any legal fees.

President Trump has also tried to take this opportunity to show the media has been treating him unfairly. Saying he has been linked to the pipe bomb mailer, but former President Barack Obama wasn’t linked to the Charleston shooting. The shooting of black Americans by a white supremacist wasn’t linked to Obama.

This is how Trump wants to show the media is treating him unfairly? Obama never encouraged his followers to use violence to attack anyone who criticized him. Trump does it everyday. When neo-nazi and white supremists gathered in Charlottesville, crediting Trump for emboldening them to come forward, and clashed with anti- racism protesters causing several injuries and killing one of the anti-racism protesters, Trump refused to condemn litteral neo-nazis instead stating there were very fine people on both sides.

Every week another tragedy happens. I have to sit here and look at pictures of people who were killed or news of potential tragedies like the pipe-bombs. Most of the time having something to do with Trump or the policies he is putting forward.

We, America, are supposed to be the leaders of the world, taking the world in a better direction. Whether that means economically, our weather climate or as a culture. But we elected someone who wants to take us back in time. Cutting regulation so companies can do whatever they want and not care what happens to our Earth. Or borrowing more money like he has done for his own personal businesses his entire life. Then cutting American citizens social security and taking money away from people who need it the most. And trying to mold our American culture to be unaccepting of other cultures and to look down on minorities and immigrants.

We need to wake up. Trump lost the popular vote in the presidential election meaning most of America did not want this. Please get out and vote. We need everyone to do their civil duty and make yourself heard. There is time to come back from this and be the America we should be.
