The WSC Women’s Soccer program ended their season with a 3-1 loss at nationally-ranked Minnesota State. The ‘Cats ended the season 4-12-1 and had a conference record of 4-10-1.

In the first period, Minnesota State had an 18-1 shot advantage. The Mavericks struck first in the 14th minute with a penalty shot.

“Christina Stasi, senior forward, started off slow but when push came to shove and in crunch time and due to injuries she stepped up,” coach Joe Cleary said. “Alexis Strothers, Natalie Rech, and Sophia Ketchmark also played well on defense.”

The Wildcats managed to go into halftime only down 2-1 as the first goal was scored at 40:51 by Christina Stasi. Alyssa Bagley had 10 saves in the match and allowed three goals.

“We gave a great account of what the team and program are about and fought hard,” Cleary said. “There was a goal disallowed in the second half and the game was the story of our season, close but not enough.”

The ’Cats ended the game with four shots and two of which were on goal. In the second half, WSC had a goal that was disallowed.

“Go harder in off-season training because if we do the same thing we will expect the same results,” Cleary said. “It needs to be the hardest year since I have been here can’t settle 12th, that is not who we are as a team and program.”

The Wildcats look to turn things up in the off-season after the disappointing season they had.
