Wayne State club wrestling looks to open up the 2018-19 season Nov. 3 at the Jimmie Open in Jamestown, South Dakota. The club is coming off yet another successful season.

“We have a positive and successful culture conclusive to success, leadership, and model of expectations,” head coach Greg VanderWeil said.

WSC club wrestling has had a very successful past and has competed at many different levels. According to coach VanderWeil, the team has to compete in many different tournaments throughout the season that all have high competition.

“Tough competition from other club teams in Fort Collins, NAIA, D2, and D1 that we will see in tournaments and wrestle above our level a lot,” VanderWeil said.

The Wildcats look to the returners to help lead them into a highly anticipated season. There are three seniors on the team this year who hope to lead the club to victory.

“Matthew Reeves, our senior captain, Hunter Weiss, and Ethan Fitzler will all be a big factor for us this year,” VanderWeil said. “It is hard to say who will come in and pan out.”

Wayne State competes in five opens this season and has a total of eight tournaments before national qualifiers and nationals. The ‘Cats look for all the support they can get as they head into the season.
