The world is laughing at us

President Donald Trump spoke at the United Nations general assembly yesterday.

An event like this is scheduled in advance and goes over a number of different topics with many speakers. Holding true to form, our president showed up late causing a last-minute schedule change.

When it was finally covenant for him to show up, Trump walked in to blank stares and a quiet polite applause. Trump finally took the stand to boast his America first brand, and boast his accomplishments over his first two years as president.

A line that usually has his crowds at rally’s exploding into applause, had a very different reaction at the annual meeting of the United Nations. Trump touted that his administration has done more than any other administration in history in his first two years. This claim in itself is completely false, and the audience of world leaders let him know. After making the claim laughter came from the crowd.

Watching clips you can see Trump is taken back by the laughter. Trump goes on to say he wasn’t expecting that reaction in a way that makes it seem like he thought they were laughing with him not at his ridiculous claim. It is obvious that some of the world leader’s were laughing at Trump not with him.

Many other presidents in history have more important accomplishments and done more in their first two years in office. Trump’s accomplishments so far are at the very least incomplete. His biggest accomplishment so far is giving giant corporations a huge tax break.

As usual in this presidency there is a tweet from Trump for everything. In 2014 he tweeted that the United States is the laughing stock of the world. Well if he wasn’t right then, he is right now.

The fact that other world leader’s laughed at him shows how isolated the United States has become among our allies. French President Emmanuel Macron said during his speech France would not make any trade deals with countries not in the Paris Climate Treaty. A shot at the United States and Trump who pulled out of the treaty last year.

The United States and in particular Donald Trump is being laughed at on the world stage. World leaders think less of us and this administration is to blame. We need to change and become the leader of the free world again. We can’t isolate ourselves from the rest of the world. It seems the only thing this administration is good at is dividing people. Whether that means it’s own people or dividing us from the world. While I agree that we have to put America first in certain areas, that doesn’t mean we have to isolate our allies. Yesterday was national register to vote day, and that is a way you can help provoke change. Register to vote and make your voice heard.
