WSC Homecoming: ‘Dare to Roar’
September 19, 2018
Starting on Sept. 24, Homecoming week begins and continues until the 30 at WSC. Homecoming week is a time filled with multiple events that go on all throughout campus.
“It’s when we have all these different things,” said Kaylee Prenosil, the co-coordinator for Homecoming week. “We come together and have pride for our school basically.”
The overall theme for Homecoming week is “Dare to Roar.” Throughout the week of Homecoming, there will be different activities going on every day for anyone to enjoy.
“If you’ve ever heard of ‘Dare to Soar,’ we picked it from there,” Prenosil said. “So, we got ‘Dare to Roar’ instead because we’re Wildcats.”
Every year, there are new things added or removed to make everyone’s experience better or more fun. One of the new things that’s included this year is a different costume theme everyday with participation prizes.
“We decided to have a different theme every day because I thought that sometimes you have an activity during the day for Homecoming week but we wanted to be able to do something fun,” London Bercey said, Homecoming week, co-coordinator. “It’s just something to be kinda [kind of] wacky everyday with.”
Monday will kick off the whole event with a color day. Each class will wear a different specific color that is assigned to them. At 6 p.m., there will be an event on Main Street called “Community Spirit Fair” that includes a scavenger hunt type of event.
“We wanted to incorporate the town of Wayne and the college and make them come together a little bit more this year,” Bercey said.
Feel free to roll out of bed on Tuesday for Pajama Day. From 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. there will be inflatables and yard games on the Band Practice Field and from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. there will be a sand volleyball tournament at the sand volleyball courts.
Live the life of a favorite character and dress as them on Wednesday for Character Day. Banner judging will take place from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Kanter Student Center Atrium and the winners will be announced outside the cafeteria. The “Nearly Naked Mile” will start at 7 p.m. at the Kanter Student Center Atrium. The pep rally will begin at 8:45 p.m. in the Ramsey Theatre with a hypnotist following right after at 9 p.m.
Travel back in time for “Throwback Thursday.” Willy Olympics will begin at 4 p.m. on the lawn in front of Bowen Hall. The highly anticipated Mr. WSC pageant starts at 8:30 p.m. in the Ramsey Theatre with special emcee Daniel Franzese, who played Damion from the movie “Mean Girls.”
