Honors presentations to end out the semester
Nearly 40 seniors will complete the honors program this year at WSC

The Honors Presentation for this spring will be held in Connell Hall again with over 40 students selected. Honor students have been working on this project for two semesters and now have their opportunity to show off their excellent work this year. The WSC Honors Program helps students develop the skills of independent thinking.
“The honors presentation is the capstone experience for a student graduating from the honors program,” said Deborah Whitt, Communication Arts Department Chair. The topics range from all majors and departments and have a focus on getting the work out about the major. The honors program helps specialize in general education courses and help complete the academic major more smoothly.
Students who have an ACT of 25 or higher and have maintained a 3.3 overall GPA get awarded and are awarded with distinction for being in honors. Faculty and students recognize these kind of accomplishments and have always been greeted nicely from other members.
“Employers and graduate schools pay attention to this distinction made by students here,” said Deborah Whitt.
Over 400 students have been a part of the honors program, and almost 40 students completed the honors program this year as well. Students have been putting in the hard work so that they can present a well researched 20 page research paper.
“These projects are documented on the students transcript,” said, Deborah Whitt.
Having an honors project on your transcript can help immensely, and will be looked at a great accomplishment. Other employers and graduate schools show interest in students who have a special focus in their major as an undergraduate.
Being a part of such a special group of students mean there are special opportunities and also challenges for them. Students have three options to choose from, High Honors in the Major, Honors in the Major and Scholar in the Major. Being a part of this group, students have the opportunity to expand their college degree and further their education.
The Honors Program wants to create lifelong learners and develop lifelong relationships with others, but also help the students strive to become smarter and understand the topic and environments.
