WSC volleyball smashes Sioux Falls in three-set sweep

It was just another day at the office Tuesday night for the No. 19 Wayne State volleyball team.

The Wildcats made quick work of the Sioux Falls Cougars and won by scores of 25-19, 25-18 and 25-16.

Katie Hughes and Alyssa Fraundorfer led the Wildcats with eight kills apiece while Elizabeth Gebhardt notched seven and Michaela Mestl had six.

Mestl led Wayne State with 13 digs followed by Katie Hughes with nine.

The Wildcats also won in a 3-0 sweep at Bemidji State last Friday with Junior Katie Hughes recording a career-high 20 kills to go with 15 digs for her fourth double of the season in a 25-18, 25-19, and 28-26 victory.

Wayne State finished the weekend with a win last Saturday against Minnesota Crookston.

The scores of the match were 25-15, 25-15, 21-25, and 25-22.

Frauendorfer led WSC in hitting with 17 kills on just one attack error for a .471 percentage. Gebhardt followed with 16 kills while Hughes notched 10 kills with 21 digs for her fifth double-double of the season.

Wayne State finally gets a chance to play at home this weekend against St. Cloud State Friday night at 7 p.m. and No. 3 Minnesota Duluth Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m.
