The Wayne State Wildcats men’s wrestling team competed on Nov. 17 and 18 against Colorado State in a wrestling dual. Other competing teams included, Minona, Missouri S&T and University of Iowa’s wrestling club. The Wildcats lost at 24-28.

“There were some tough matches,” Head Coach Greg Vander Weil said. “There were a couple one point matches, (where we were ahead but) got caught and pinned. One of those duals we could probably re-wrestle and come on top.”

Colorado State finished with 71 points, WSC had 56 points, Winona State University, 18 points, the University of Iowa, 17 points and Missouri University of Science and Technology, 10 points.

Alejandro Martinez from WSC finished first in the 125-133 weight bracket. Levi Honeywell and Matthew Reeves placed second and third in the 141 bracket. While, Hunter Weiss and Ethan Fitzler from WSC placed third and fourth, respectively, in the 149 pound bracket. Terry Stephens, in the 157 weight bracket, placed third. Gerald Kenkel placed fourth in the 165-174 weight bracket. Spencer Trout placed first in the 184-197 weight bracket. Sean Krebbs placed fourth in the 235-285 weight bracket.

The next wrestling match will be held against Buena Vista on Dec. 2 in Storm Lake, IA. The following weekend will be the team’s wrap up the first half of the season in Crete on Dec. 9 at the Doane Open.
