Carroll man arrested on pornography charges
September 17, 2014
Ted S. Perry of rural Carroll was arrested Tuesday, Sept. 9, by the Nebraska State Patrol. He faces several charges for possession and distribution of child pornography.
Perry worked as a financial advisor here in Wayne and his arrest was the result of a four-month investigation by the Nebraska State Patrol, which received a Cyber Tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
Microsoft Corporation reported the tip to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children on May 12 after finding images they reported as child pornography attached to a customer’s e-mail on their Hotmail account. The tip included a copy of the reported e-mail and attached image files.
A search warrant was served by the Nebraska State Patrol in July to the Microsoft Corporation, which allowed them access to all records associated with the e-mail that Perry’s name was allegedly attached to. The information was received in August and documented numerous e-mails containing photographs and videos depicting child pornography.
The probable cause affidavit for the arrest was filed in Wayne County Court and Perry was taken to the Pierce County Jail on Sept. 9. Bond was set by Judge Ross Stoffer at $20,000. Perry paid the required 10 percent, or $2,000, with the bond conditions that Perry may not have unsupervised internet access, e-mailing or texting, and no unsupervised contact with any children under 13 years of age.
According to a release by Deputy Wayne County Attorney Amy Miller, Perry is formally charged with 18 counts of Possession of Visual Depiction of Sexually Explicit Conduct, a Class III felony, which carries, for each count, a minimum of one year imprisonment and a maximum of twenty years imprisonment, or a twenty-five thousand dollar fine, or both.
Perry is also charged with 10 counts of Distribution of Sexually Explicit Conduct, a Class ID felony, which carries, for each count, a mandatory minimum of three years imprisonment, and a maximum of fifty years imprisonment.
Perry is scheduled to make an appearance at the Wayne County Court House Sept. 22 at 9 a.m.
