Watch what you tweet

Some time late Monday night something curious popped up on Sen. Ted Cruz’s official Twitter account, that would go viral, leaving many to comment. That something just happened to be a snippet from a porno tape posted by the Twitter handle “Sexuall Posts.” The post has since been removed from Cruz’s page.

Many jokes have been and will be made of this, and rightfully
so. This hard-right God-loving man is surfing the dark portions of the Twittersphere and liking posts he shouldn’t be looking at.

This even got a response from the actress in the tape, Corey Chase, telling the HuffPost, “I didn’t like that he watched it for free. He should have paid Reality Kings for a subscription.”

So, what really happened? As of writing, we have heard only two things from the Cruz camp. A tweet sent out hours later by a spokeswoman, Catherine Frazier read, “The offensive tweet posted on @tedcruz account earlier has been removed by staff and reported to twitter.” Cruz told The Washington Post a few hours later that a “staffing issue” led to the tweet being liked from his account. This staffing issue is supposed to be resolved internally. Cruz also made sure he mentioned that this was purely an accident and not a deliberate act.

As if it wasn’t going badly already, these statements just further the confusion. The statement tweeted by Frazier seems to suggest Cruz was hacked by saying it was reported to twitter. But Cruz came back and said later that it was a staffing issue.

Well, which is it? Literally the only thing we want to know is if Cruz
had anything to do with it. Was he hacked as Frazier seems to allude
to? Was a staff member looking through twitter and just accidently
liked a post? Or were you having a little late night “me” time, Ted?

These questions are out there still because Cruz keeps declining to comment to major news organizations. A man who has run for president and might again in the future should be able to handle this situation better then he has.

We know he wasn’t hacked-why else would he blame it on a “staffing issue”? I don’t like blaming it on an unnamed staffer either. If this staffer did like the post why have they not been removed yet?

“This is not how I envisioned waking up this morning. Although I
will say if I had known that this would trend so quickly, perhaps we
should have posted something like this back during the Indiana
primary,” Cruz told reporters, trying to make light of the situation.

Oh, Ted. Trying to joke your way out of this isn’t going to work. This isn’t the first time Cruz has been tied to the adult film industry. Back in the 2016 Republican primary a web video was posted by the Cruz campaign featuring a former erotic film star. The video, which targeted Marco Rubio, was removed from online once details came out about the actress’s past films.

Yet again that was not the first time Cruz was connected to the industry. In a video obtained by CNN, a high-school Cruz is asked what his life ambitions are.

“Well, my aspiration is to, oh, I don’t know, be in a teen tit film like that guy who played Horatio. You know, he was in Malibu Bikini Beach Shop,” Cruz replied.

In my own humble opinion, I think Cruz was stressed out and needed some sort of release. This really is a small thing that will go away pretty quickly, but at least we could all get a good laugh from the fallout. I guess a like on a tweet is better than being found passed out in a hotel room with strippers.
