Event Center coming to Wayne

The Wayne City Council came to the decision to provide utilities to the new Beaumont Event Center being built by the Wayne Country Club Golf Course after an hour-long discussion ending in an 8-1 vote.

The husband and wife working on the event center can now move forward with their project. As the event center is outside the city limits the couple will have to pay extra fees to use city utilities.

The discussion surrounding the event center also led to talks about annexation, which will be discussed at the next meeting.

Wayne might see the development of town houses on Wriedt Properties, located by Quality Foods. Wriedt is asking permission to use LB840 funds to move the four occupied trailers currently on the lot in order to clear the land so Chad Sebade can develop it.

Wriedt Properties had applied for the use of these funds for the same purpose in the past. The funds were never used and so the loan was taken back. Wriedt has now reapplied for the same loan again.

The council was in agreement that the plan is a good one for the community but tabled the decision over debate and uncertainty about using the LB840 funds for the project.

The next meeting will be held April 18 at 5:30.
